Introduction

Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited (ICBC) was established in 1984. On 28 October 2005, ICBC was wholly restructured to a joint-stock limited company. On 27 October 2006, ICBC was successfully listed on both the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Since 2006, ICBC has been developing an advanced corporate governance framework and continued to promote reforms, innovations and operational transformations. Through its continuous endeavor and stable development, ICBC has become one of the world’s largest banks with regards to profitability, capital adequacy and market value. In 2017, ICBC  was ranked the 1st place among the Top 1000 World Banks by The Banker, ranked 1st place in the Global 2000 listed by Forbes and topped the sub-list of commercial banks of the Global 500 in Fortune for the sixth consecutive year.Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, Zurich Branch (the Branch) completed its commercial register on 11 December 2017 and held its official opening ceremony on 21 June 2018. As a representative of ICBC in Switzerland, the Branch provides a wide variety of services and products for corporates, including corporate loans, trade finance, deposits, remittance, FX Trading, clearing and settlement and etc. The Branch takes the advantage of ICBC Group, which is the biggest RMB bank in terms of assets, and one of the most important market makers of RMB inter-bank Market, to provide corporate clients and financial institutions with high quality services on RMB deposits, loans, remittance, RMB&FX trading, RMB Clearing and RMB liquidity support. The Branch’s highly qualified management and experienced staff offer clients a full portfolio of high quality banking services.

The Branch is able to provide Swiss investors who intend to invest in China with an extensive network and comprehensive services. The Branch can also leverage on its significant Chinese client base built up over the past decades to provide the perfect gateway for Chinese companies looking to expand their business to Switzerland and vice versa. The board of directors of ICBC decides to set up a branch in Switzerland.

13 September 2016
The China Banking Regulatory Commission approves ICBC’s application to set up a branch in Switzerland.

23 December 2016
ICBC applies to the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) to establish a branch in Zurich.

13 November 2017
FINMA issues the Confirmation Letter to ICBC, agreeing to ICBC’s application.

11 December 2017
ICBC completes the Branch’s commercial register process.

21 June 2018
The Branch holds its official opening ceremony in Zurich.
